Marissa Nelson

Senior Director of Digital Media, CBC News and Centers


Marissa leads the strategic planning, development and delivery of all of the digital content and products for CBC News and the 20 regional stations, including the first-ever digital-only station. 

Previously, Marissa was the Managing Editor for CBC's main network site, CBCNews.ca, which is the most visited news property in Canada. She has focused most of her career on helping legacy media companies re-imagine themselves for the digital age. Early on, she helped create an innovative digital training program for the Hamilton Spectator. She launched a similar program for the Toronto Star, the largest Canadian newspaper and went on to run the Star's digital properties, including thestar.com  and launch its first-ever mobile app. 

Before that, she was a reporter at the London Free Press. She has an arts degree from Queen's University and journalism degree from Ryerson University
