Ron Waksman is the Director, Online News, Current Affairs and
Editorial Standards & Practices for Global News.
Ron has oversight of Globalnews.ca, Canada’s fastest growing
news web site. Globalnews.ca was reinvented in March 2013 as
the country’s first fully responsive website, delivering a superior
user experience anywhere, anytime. Globalnews.ca’s responsive
design strategy positions Global News as an industry leader
prepared for the explosive growth potential of delivering news to
mobile devices. Ron is a member of the senior news leadership
team responsible for strategic planning and Global News
operations. He has a leadership role in Global News’ Digital First
initiative, transforming legacy broadcast newsrooms into 24-hour
digital news platforms.
As the director responsible for editorial standards and practices, Ron provides daily guidance and advice
to senior editorial managers in Global newsrooms across Canada on matters of journalistic practice,
ethics and legal policy. Ron also oversees Global News’ Gemini and RTDNA award-winning investigative
current affairs program, 16X9.
Waksman researched, edited and wrote the second edition of the Global News Journalistic Principles and
Practices published in 2012, a practical guide for journalists in the areas of editorial standards,
professional conduct, legal policy and ethics. The second edition specifically addressed new areas of
journalistic practice such as online newsgathering and social media.
Ron serves as an adjudicator for the Canadian Broadcast Standards Council and he is a member of the
Organization of News Ombudsmen.
