Dave Trafford

News Director, Global News Toronto


Dave Trafford is an award winning broadcast journalist. He’s reported from five national capitals and every province in Canada, earned accolades for his coverage of local, national and international stories and won awards for his editorial commentary.

He has covered a broad range of events that have shaped the political and cultural landscape of the Greater Toronto Area since the mid 1980's. Dave has also reported on some of the biggest international events of our time, including the funeral of Pope John Paul II, the inauguration of Barack Obama and the Royal Wedding of William and Kate.

Dave has been News Director at AM640, Newstalk1010 CFRB, and Global News Toronto.

He is an active RTDNA member, having served on the board as the International representative and as chair of the 2013 and 2014 National Conferences. Dave received the Radio Television Digital News Association Distinguished Service Award “in recognition and appreciation of outstanding contribution and exemplary distinguished service rendered for the benefit and advancement of electronic journalism and RTDNA Canada.”

He is a founder of University of Toronto Community Radio, CIUT FM. He has taught broadcast journalism at Humber College and has been a guest lecturer at the University of Western Ontario, Journalism Dept.

He's also a founding board member and supporter of Dreamtheatre Productions  - a community based performing arts theatre company in Toronto. He mentors and coaches young musicians, performers, athletes and broadcasters, and is an award winning musician and songwriter.
