Mark Blanchard
Manager, Network Resources, News Technology and Logistics, Global News
As a manager with Global's network resources desk, Mark
Blanchard helps field crews who move fast and need to file
quickly once they hit the ground with the technology and
logistics of newsgathering. He started out as a print reporter
at a Nova Scotia daily almost 30 years ago, but ended up
working in radio and TV newsrooms both in Canada and the
U.S, as well as writing Canadian stories for American
telecom and business publications. His editorial roles at
Global turned into a technical support one as laptops got
lighter and upload speeds faster. When he is not in the field,
Mark helps his competitors as the coordinator of the Trenton
Pool and the TVP file replication system, which moves the
bulk of video from pool crews covering the prime minister
abroad as ones and zeros instead of traditional satellite or fibre feeds, saving time, money and effort.
